Please see adjacent documents for flow charts and Single Agency Referral Forms (SARF). The SARF is the current referral method to social services. There are ongoing discussions about using the Common Assessment Framework (CAF or e-CAF) to refer. This website will be updated if the referral method changes. The Children Act 1989 (amended 2004) introduces 2 particular concepts in Child Protection in England: • Child in Need (Section 17) those whose vulnerability is such that they are unlikely to reach or maintain a satisfactory level of health or development, or their health and development will be significantly impaired, without the provision of services. • Child at Risk (Section 47) suffering or likely to suffer significant harm RCGP Safeguarding Children and Young People: A Toolkit for General Practice (see adjacent link) A toolkit of guidance notes and sample templates of child protection policies, procedures, a good practice code, and other guidance related to caring for children and young people in the general practice.
